- Dilute Hydrofluoric Acid solutions transform a hydrophilic silicon surface to a hydrophobic surface by terminating the silicon surface with hydrogen. Dilute HF can be used to eliminate a silicon dioxide dielectric layer or to remove a metal contaminated native oxide.
