Mannitol Salt Agar is a selective medium used for the identification and isolation of pathogenic staphylococci. The sealed bottle containing the dehydrated medium should be stored at 2 to 30.0°C. The powder is homogeneous, free flowing and light beige. Visually the prepared medium is clear to trace hazy and light pink in color. The expected cultural response is after 24-48 hours at 35.0°C. Once opened and recapped, it should be placed in the container in a low humidity environment at the same storage temperature. It should be protected from moisture and light.
