Company History

In 1963, Lee Williams and Mack Johnson founded Capitol Scientific as Chem Products, Inc., a manufacturer of n-Methyl-Piperazine, a product used in the manufacturing of the original antihistamines in the pharmaceutical market. The company rapidly evolved by first being awarded a reagent chemical distributorship with J.T. Baker, Inc. and thereafter acquiring prominent laboratory product lines including Eppendorf®, Corning®, Nalgene®, Whatman®, Wheaton Science, Barnstead, Thermolyne and more.

In 1972, Mr. Williams officially changed the company name to Capitol Scientific to better represent the business and products sold. Around that time, Capitol Scientific became a founding member of the Allied Laboratory Dealer Network, a co-operative network of independent laboratory supply dealers across the United States.

Since the mid 1970’s, Capitol Scientific has experienced aggressive growth through strategic sales and executive hires, state of the art software and technology, market expansion including the semiconductor and biotech industries, and acquisition of several hundred laboratory equipment and reagent chemical distributorships.

In 1990, Mr. Williams’s grandson, Felix Ware joined Capitol Scientific, as one of the company’s first sales managers. Then in 2000, Mr. Ware purchased the company from Mr. Williams, taking over the role as President and CEO. In the last quarter century, Mr. Ware has maintained a culture of innovation and growth through technology, while still delivering the highest quality service and products to our customers. The company has expanded beyond its Austin, Texas headquarters with sales teams, support staff and warehouse locations throughout the country. Today, Capitol Scientific is a part of several industry professional organizations including the Independent Laboratories Dealer Association (ILDA)
