Methyl cellulose is used as a buffer additive in capillary electrophoresis to control electroosmotic flow for improved separations. Methy lcellulose is also used in cell culture to study viral replication, in stem cell differentiation, and as a bacterial motility inhibitor. It is non-toxic and non-allergenic.
