Details
- A soxhlet extractor is a piece of laboratory apparatus invented in 1879 by Franz von Soxhlet, originally designed for the extraction of a lipid from a solid material
- Not limited to the extraction of lipids; typically, a soxhlet extraction is only required where the desired compound has a limited solubility in a solvent and the impurity is insoluble in that solven
- If the desired compound has a high solubility in a solvent then a simple filtration can be used to separate the compound from the insoluble substance
- Approximate 125mL capacity is measured to base of the flask neck; ground glass join between the soxhlet tub and the flask is 24/40; hose connections on the condenser accept 5/16-inch I.D. flexible tubing
- Accomodates thimble size of 25x85mm and 30mm I.D. extraction tube; overall height = 565mm; siphon tube approx. height = 73mm; 43mL capacity of tube to top of siphon
