Ricca Chemical Gardner Color Standard Solutions are manufactured and certified in accordance with:

• ADTM D1544 Standard Test Method for Color of Transparent Liquids (Gardner Scale)

• ASTM D6166 Standard Test Method of Naval Stores and Related Products (Industrial Determination of Gardner Color)

In 1958, the Gardner Color Scale was defined by a series of eighteen (18) liquid color standards ranging from virtually clear, a light yellow (Gardner 1) to a dark brown (Gardner 18) color. (Gardner 0) was referenced by the color of DI Water (distilled water). Later, the eighteen liquid color standards were replaced by glass filter which now comprise the modern day basis for the visual Gardner Color Comparator as described in ASTM D1544. ASTM D6166 provides the instrumental correlation to the visual Gardner Color Scale.
