Cytiva's Whatman™ MBS I Automated Microbiological Membrane Filtration System

Cytiva's Whatman® MBS I Microbiological Filtration System is ideal for optimal microbiological control using membrane filtration. The overall procedure time is reduced to a minimum. The design of the system, which consists of an electrical membrane dispenser, a funnel dispenser, and a vacuum manifold, leads to more reproducible results. The special sealing technique ensures easy handling and a good integrity of the funnel and membrane during filtration. This reduces any cross contamination to a minimum.

The combination of the funnel dispenser and the Cytiva's Whatman® Membrane-Butler E in the MBS I filtration system is unique. When a funnel is taken from the dispenser, the Membrane-Butler E automatically dispenses a membrane from the sterile pack ready to use.

Funnel Versatility & Magazine Delivery The autoclavable plastic funnels for the MBS I is a true innovation. Unlike tedious flaming of stainless steel filtration equipment for sterilization, the new funnel is simple to use and ensures sterility. The new funnels are provided sterile in a magazine and save time especially when a large number of samples need to be processed by one apparatus.

The 350mL size funnels are of high grade polypropylene and can be re-autoclaved up to 50 times. For critical sterile applications where funnels can only be used once the MBS I filtration system offers a 100mL capacity funnel which is pre-sterilized and supplied ready for immediate use – packaged in a sterile dispensing magazine. A special closure mechanism at the extraction edge ensures that the funnel seals tightly with the membrane.

MBS I Filtration System Workflow
1. When ejecting a new pre-sterilized funnel, the membrane is dispensed automatically
2. Membrane is then placed onto the filter base and the funnel is installed
3. Sample liquid is poured into the funnel and a vacuum is applied
4. Membrane is easily removed after filtration
